Jacob Leary and Carolyn Wigston
investigate the urban landscape in Transient City. Questioning the relationship
between artist and the environment, the exhibition seeks to open dialogue
between the created reality of day-to-day life and the contemporary consumer
culture in which it feeds.
Australia's urban landscape has materialized rapidly, urbanites themselves
evolving and modifying to live in the emerging cities. Australian artists
are not pre-disposed to centuries of city-history and culture and have a unique
viewpoint when depicting the urban landscape.
Perth based Leary and Hobart based Wigston investigate mans repetitious role
within the city through abstracted geometric forms. The use of industrial paints,
metals and polymers, provide unique interpretations of the constructed environment.
Carolyn Wigston is currently completing her undergraduate
degree in Fine Arts at the University of Tasmania. Her work has been exhibited
in Living Artist Week in Hobart and a solo show seen in May 2006 at Entrepot
Gallery Hobart.
Jacob Leary has appeared in numerous group exhibitions around Hobart holding
his first solo exhibition in November 2005 at Entrepot Gallery, Hobart. |
