Naomi Williamson's The Sausage That Jumps From The Frying Pan and Other (Very) Short Stories is a video work of dozens of 10 second animations originating from hundreds of Pictionary drawings.
The seconds it takes to make a Pictionary drawing, the urgency of execution holds a poetry which begs the question what are the increments between moment and story? Do any even exist? We are reminded of time as an element by the emulation of the 17th century Japanese time clock displayed in the corner of the screen. The signifying animals hover as a reminder of the significance of a 10 second moment.
 
As well as transforming moments into stories, the work does away with any snobbish distinctions that might exist between doodling and drawing. The haste and hustle of Pictionary places fine drafts-people and occasional phone-doodlers on an equal footing. The mechanics and metabolism of Pictionary affords Williamson the opportunity to unburden herself of her formidable skills in the craft of drawing.
 
Naomi Williamson is a South Australian artist working in traditional forms of animation combined with new technologies. With a penchant for the 5-second drawing: Naomi¹s naïve line combines innocence with an often-foreboding sense of the absurd. It is out of these contradictions that the works dark humour is born. Naomi has shown in Adelaide and Melbourne and has received several grants and awards.
