Collective
Obsessions 2 is a photographic investigation into the
current level of acceptability of the use of female sexual images in
Australian society. Every
day we are bombarded with images of sexuality and in particular female
sexuality in the never-ending campaign to sell something. These images
look down on us from billboard posters and out from newsagents' windows
in the form of magazine covers; Cinema and theatre posters frequently
try to attract our attention with lascivious content; In our homes, the
ubiquitous television screen plays a big part in filling our days with
images of sex. I am the father of three small daughters and as I witness
this daily parade of stylised sexuality I wonder what effect it has on
the minds of the young women these images are meant to represent, appeal
to or inspire. |
