Pirate jokes are always funny
even when they are bad. Pirates are pretty amazing. The idea of “the
pirate” evokes romanticized images of treasure chests, cussing
parrots, peg legs, plank walking, swashbuckling swordfights, eye patches,
looted booty, skull and cross bones, cool tricorn hats and a cacophony
of male voices unifying on the note of arrhhhhhhh.
The directors of Firstdraft gallery present an exploration of vacuity exploring
vacuity. In keeping with the theme of the show Michael Moran, Kathryn Gray, Helena
Leslie, Daniel Green, Sean Rafferty, Michaela Gleave and Elizabeth Reidy would
like to express their warmest hopes that you come drink at their opening. Awesome!
Firstdraft Gallery is a not for profit artist run initiative
(ARI) situated in Surry Hills, Sydney, managed by a board of voluntary directors,
each emerging artists and curators. Firstdraft was formed in 1986 by an artist
collective with the aim of creating an alternate exhibition space for the development
and promotion of Australia’s emerging contemporary visual arts and craft
practitioners.
Firstdraft is committed to supporting emerging contemporary artists, thereby
encouraging the production of significant visual arts and discourse and fostering
the vitality of the local and broader Australian arts community. We run
a professional, independent and accessible gallery, and provide assistance and
support for emerging artists and curators within a diverse artistic program. Firstdraft
continually aspires to increase opportunities for exhibitions with a diverse
range of artists and new audiences, building networks and promoting dialogue
and appreciation of contemporary art today. |
