"…it must have been cold there in my shadow…"
Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler

HOT MOCK is the beginning of an ongoing collaboration between Vicki Papageorgopoulos and Emma Ramsay and is bound by the conversations and events that occur across our shared art studio, at home and friendship.

In the "Shooting the Shit" video, Vicki Papageorgopoulos poses as a more than a tourist, but a close friend, and old pal, a confidant with many of her idols and favourite celebrity icons. The video plays on loop in conversation with a video that profiles two sculptural pieces by Emma Ramsay. The artist portraits present the artists as ‘Time Out Dolls’ sitting shut off from the world. Their head in their hands, bound together in creepy ‘Versace’ rip off leisurewear and perpetual deep thought. Close up footage of the leisurewear becomes the backdrop for the works, with a clumsy, de-tuned soundtrack of horns and make shift percussion.

Playing with idea of ‘mock’ crossed over into both of our practices because of our belief that making art is always an experiment. Why test things out on prototypes, when they can become the artwork itself. Let the art be an artifact of that process. Let the document of the art happening or objects become another work in itself.

HOT MOCK also looks at what the general perception is of what an artist ‘looks’ like and how they spend their time. The idea of ‘posing’ became a major idea we shared as a jumping off point for some new work.
